    Description

Unusual 19th c silverplate domed or egg shaped inkstand with fitted interior for 2 ink bottles.
The finial on this footed inkstand is intricately pierced so that it can be used as a sander. The underside of the domed lid has a plain piece of thin, tin-like metal that would lift up to add the sand to sift through the pierced finial in order to dry the ink.
The inkstand measures 5" tall.  The base is 2 5/8" in diameter.
This piece is unmarked.  Looking at it, it appears that it is silverplate over copper.
The condition is good.  There is normal aging and some light wear to the plating, as pictured.  Unfortunately,  the inkstand is missing the glass base to one of the ink bottles.  The top silver rim to the missing bottle remains with the piece.  The other ink bottles with silver rim is intact.
    Thanks for looking!
