Description
For sale is a RARE! Antique 19th Century Victorian Porcelain Figural Inkwell set Complete with two smaller round pots that fit within a larger decorative case and a mother of pearl made ink pen. The two smaller pots within holds ink and pounce powder respectively, the later of which is a fine powder to dry excessive ink.The outer case is amazingly decorative and detailed art work. It depicts two hunters resting next to a tree stump with their hunting dog and the day’s game (rabbit, etc). The man on the left holds a hunting rifle. The man on the right a hunting knife. They both look calm and observant of their surroundings. Their attire looks European to me. I am not sure which specific country this inkwell is made in. Possibly France or Germany?
The top is a full 3D porcelain sculpture with details made on every angle. Golden color is applied by hand to highlight the theme. The base has two holes to hold the two inner containers and is also decorated to mimic the surrounding trees and floras, again with golden highlights. The base extends forward to form a pen rest.
a mother of pearl ink pen comes with the ink well. It sits well on the pen rest. I am not sure whether it is original with the inkwell, but it fits perfectly.
The inkwell measures approximately 7” wide, 5” deep, and 7” tall with the top on. It is in great condition. No chips, losses, or damages anywhere that I can find. Please check all photos carefully for detailed condition and request more photos if you wish.
Overall, this is a museum quality piece of well preserved writing device from the Victorian Era. Stunningly beautiful!!!
