antique
early pewter smooth body flask, with its original cork lined screw cap. The cap also features some delicate, highly detailed sgraffito incised banding at its top and a curled, beaded cap base. The entire pewter flask doesn't suffer from any measurable dings or dents, which is remarkable in and of itself, knowing the pewter flask is from the
mid-19th century
and now nearly, if not,
150-170 yrs old.
The collapsed, concave sidewalls are intentional and were designed for the pocket flask to be easily gripped and held. There are some minor abrasions and scuffs to its surface but these aren't deep or significantly damage the piece. They represent prior use and previous wear and are consistent with a pewter flask of this age and antique pedigree. It's an
earlier mid-19th century
pewter flask and from the
US Civil War era,
with its spare decoration and primitive, basic form. A remarkable
