Description
For sale is a Transitional Brassie made by R. Forgan & Son in the 1890's. This club is in excellent condition for a 125 year old club. I purchased this club 10 years ago and have done nothing to it except keep the head and shaft oiled with tung oil. The face is 1 3/8" high. The head is 2 1/16" wide at its widest. Transitional clubs were first made in 1885 by Robert Simpson or Willie Park. Both men claimed to be the original club maker to thicken and shorten the head to make the transitional club between the long nose and bulger clubs. I have a Forgan transitional spoon/baffy listed that is almost identical to this brassie, except it has more loft. They make a nice pair. This club is 43" long and has 12 degrees of loft. The club head has a small crack between the lead weight and the brass plate. The original sheepskin grip has grip a couple of wear marks from use and replacement whipping and the bottom of the grip.. Otherwise this club is in excellent original condition. Forgan was regarded as the best wood club maker in Scotland along with the McEwans of Musselburgh. This would make a nice addition to a club collection.Shipping within the USA is .00 . Shipping to Canada is on eBay Global Express.
