Description
This fine Victorian cast brass inkwell is formed in the shape of a Chinese pagoda. Its cast borders feature scrolls, acanthus leaves and grotesques. The sides of the body of the inkwell have vertical flutes that resemble bamboo. The lid has a gadroon border and a finial/handle turned with concentric rings. The hinged lid works well and the piece was cast in four pieces and is held together with a round nut (tightened with a spanner). The inkwell is in great condition (glass liner missing) with no notable damage and with a great old unbuffed surface. It is a bit over 4" square at the base and is 4.75" tall. It stands on French bracket feet. I think it dates to about 1870.Stock Number SAZ-357
