    PLEASE NOTE ............ this item is selling AS-IS ....... i will describe it to the best of my ability , but nearly every item i sell is from 50 to 100 years old and will show some sign of wear

    THIS LISTING ........ clearly signed ..... E F Caldwell of New York on the bottom ...... i see no cracks or repairs on this unusual inkwell ....... each corner features a kind of female griffin with wings and each has a total of four breasts ....... from the waist it appears the girls are sprouting from a flower ..... 4 huge feet and a Fleur de Lis pattern on each side panel ...... sort of a pomegranate finial on the lid .......
    the inkwell is heavy ..... weighing just over 3 pounds itself ........ 3 3/4 inches from foot to foot ..... 4 inches to the top of the pineapple finial when closed ...... a high quality item
    lid works perfectly , but the glass insert is no longer with the inkwell ....... i am sorry not to have one lying around , but it will take one that measures ...... 1 3/8 inches across the top ...... the depth is not relevant as the well goes to the bottom
    . there are fountain pen collectors who only collect this Caldwell brand of inkwells ....... but is is kind of Mesopotamian looking statues to me ....... anyway , thanks for taking the time to look ......
