Description
This great Art Deco/Modernist bronze inkwell was made by the Smith Metal Arts Company under their trademark Silver Crest. The smith Metal arts Company was started in 1919 by Frederick Smith who had been the head salesman for the Heintz Metal Arts Shop. This inkwell has fine modernist lines with a cylindrical shape and a conforming round lid with a scribed central band. It also has a unique patina that has an almost cloud-like pattern that merges from a coppery color to an oxidized silver color. The central band on the lid in contrast is more brassy in color and lightly brushed in the opposite direction or the rest of the lid. The inkwell is 2.25" tall and is 3.25" in diameter. It has an internal removable glass reservoir. There is what I think is dried ink and a few small scratches on the inside of the lid. The piece has one small dent where the hinged lid folds back on the body of the piece and there are a few little stains and thin spots in the patina but mainly the inkwell is in nice condition.Stock Number SAY-481
