Description
The Victorian middle class, anxious to demonstrate their new found wealth and social standing, surrounded themselves with all categories of amusing articles.This is a figural inkwell crafted in oak depicting an outside toilet.
The inkwell is the lavatory set in a wooden bench, exactly as they were in life. It has a lid and a door for privacy and a small drawer to hold stamps, nibs etc. Under the roof would be used for blotting paper.
The base is 7 inches by 5 inches, the outhouse is 5 inches tall with an overall height of 7 inches.
It is a one-off piece with wonderful workmanship and a superb patina to the oak. Circa 1845 to 1865.
