Description
ANTIQUE Double Inkwell Stand With Pen HolderRack Patented 1879.This is a stand only, no ink bottles. Pen rack designed for 3 pens. Flip lids for bottles are part of the stand. Stamped on bottom “PAT’d NOV. 25, 1879” with impressed mark. Almost all of the surfaces are impressed with a variety of designs including stars, triangles, hearts, angel head with wings, leaves, borders & etc. The metal has a strong magnetic pull & is steel. There are no screws. It is assembled with the pieces fitting into slots and holes & bent or hammered to keep pieces together. Because of this method of assemblage, it is not rigid. The unit measures 7 3/4” long;4 1/4” high; 5” deep. It appears to me that this was hand made or at least partially hand made. There are 4 peg feet that are not identical and go thru the bottom level of the stand and come through the center of flower designs.
The holes for the ink bottles measure 2” square but the corners are clipped.. because the bottles would be covered with the round disk flaps that are attached to the stand, the height should be 2 3/4” high, the lid measures 1 3/8” inside diameter and 1 1/2” outside diameter measure.
