  • Modified Item: No
  • Color: Amber, Silver
  • Condition: In excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks in the glass. There are some minor surface scratches. There is some residue on the inside of the bottle, which I'm sure could be easily removed using a solvent. The silver collar on the neck is in excellent condition. The cork, itself is in fine condition, and silver on the cork is worn... which should give an indication as to how much it was used... er, I mean, loved.

    Description

    This is a Very Rare
    Mouth / Hand-blown
    Specialty Liquor Bottle / Flask
    Dating to the 1850's - 1870's
    Ireland, or possibly Scotland
    It is in excellent condition.
There are NO chips, cracks, and only minor surface scratches on the glass.
    It is h
and blown with a few, very small air bubbles.
    This is not molded.
The shape is a flattened oval - with a slight concave on both sides - n
ot quite teardrop in shape (it's a little too squashed)
Not quite symmetrical - It has a very slight wobble to it but stands firmly. (Another indicator to it being hand blown)
The glass is a Dark Amber colour. (Some of the content's original residue remains on the inside).
It has an applied D handle to the shoulder and neck.
The bottom has a slight push-up with no sanding marks.
    The
    pontil
scar seems to be slightly concave as well (in addition to the slightly concave base) Also, there's a slight, very
sharp edge towards the outer rim on one section of the pontil scar. This is where the pontil was grounded.
The bottle is topped off by a s
    ilver neck/collar ring
    with a
    matching silver topped cork
. Both are engraved, but with no hallmarks. While the silver collar on the neck is in wonderful condition, the silver on the cork is worn... probably because it was used/loved so much.
This is an exquisite specialty liquor bottle/flask/decanter, probably from
Ireland (think Irish Whisky), or possibly Scotland (think Scotch). I would date it from the 1850's to the 1870's, as specialty liquor bottles of this type were popular then (Although they dated back to the 1820's).
It would have originally had the tavern's label on it, and this would have held their
    "top shelf"
liquor. When the bottle was empty, they would have had it refilled.
    Measurements:
    7 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 3" - the cork adds another 3/4" to the height
    Weight:
    1 lb 2 7/8 oz
Be sure to look at the image closely a they are part of the description.
Shipping is free in the continental US. The bottle will be fully insured and a signature will be required upon receipt.
