    Description

    This is an early Staffordshire china inkwell from the 1830s or 40s....is shaped like a birds nest with 3 little blue eggs inside. A green colored snake is entering the nest to eat the eggs. I believe it may have originally had a mother bird perched on the edge of nest but she has been broken off?....it is still a very interesting and wonderful inkwell.  The pen hole and ink hole are sticking out of the side of nest.....2 1/8"tall x 3"round.....multicolor rough texture nest....blue eggs with black speckles......

    The number printed on bottom is an old museum identification number from The Strong Museum of Rochester, NY. This authentic early inkwell was decommissioned by the museum a few years ago to raise funds for further acquisitions. We were fortunate enough to acquire it from the New England auction house that The Strong commissioned to sell some of their objects of art.
